Why A Good Word?

Life can be heavy, can’t it? Worry weighs us down, fear steals our joy, and before we know it, our hearts feel burdened beyond what we can bear. But then—grace steps in. Proverbs 12:25 gives us this simple but powerful truth:

“Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.”

That’s why this blog exists—A Good Word—because sometimes, all we need is a word of hope to lift our gaze back to God. A reminder that we are seen, known, and deeply loved.

William Barclay once said, “One of the highest of human duties is the duty of encouragement… It is easy to laugh at men’s ideals; it is easy to pour cold water on their enthusiasm; it is easy to discourage others. The world is full of discouragers. We have a Christian duty to encourage one another.”

And isn’t that the truth? The world has no shortage of critics and cynics. But how powerful is a well-timed word of encouragement? It has the power to stir faith, awaken joy, and remind us that God is still at work—even when life feels uncertain.

So if you’re feeling weighed down today, take heart. Let A Good Word remind you that God is near, His promises are sure, and His grace is enough.

May every word here be a lifting word, a strengthening word—a good word.
